Is Insight Physical Therapy part of a national chain or franchise.
No. Insight Physical Therapy is locally owned and operated by Dr. Mark Erickson who grew up in Wisconsin and has practiced physical therapy in Green Bay, Oconomowoc, Madison and now Hartland over the past 32 years. He has been living in Hartland for 12 years and is a Physical Therapy Professor at Carroll University. He also taught in the PT program at UW Madison for 11 years. Dr. Erickson started Insight PT to provide high quality physical therapy at a reasonable price because the cost of PT has skyrocketed and people who need good care can no longer afford it. In addition, physical therapy services are now more than ever being provided by corporations more interested in profit margins than good care. Insight’s mission is to provide community members with better physical therapy in an efficient, cost effective manner.
How do I schedule an appointment?

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Erickson?
Commonly, a patient is referred to Insight Physical Therapy from their medical doctor. Chiropractors, physician assistants, dentists, podiatrists and nurse practitioners can also refer you to Insight PT.
In Wisconsin you can go to a physical therapist directly, without seeing (and paying for) another provider first. This is called Direct Access, and it’s legal and common. Direct access saves you valuable time and money by scheduling your physical therapy appointment directly.
Direct access is allowed if you’d like to see Dr. Erickson for any of the following:
- Services related to athletic activities
- Athletic activities include organized and recreational sports, running, biking, golf, tennis, volleyball, softball, etc.
- Conditioning or injury prevention
- Conditioning and injury includes general fitness assessment, walking programs, body awareness training, balance training, and learning how to move more effectively.
- Services related to a previously diagnosed medical condition
- In this situation, Mark will contact your physician, chiropractor, dentist, podiatrist or nurse practitioner to they are aware you’re being seen for physical therapy at Insight PT.

Am I required to go to physical therapy where my medical doctor sends me?
No. A referral (prescription) for physical therapy is like a prescription for a medication. Just like you can choose chick pharmacy to get your medication prescription filled, you get to choose your physical therapist.
Insight offers physical therapy services provided by Dr. Mark Erickson who has over 32 years of experience and provides more affordable care in a one-on-one, individualized caring environment.
Will I need to go to PT the rest of my life?
No. I believe my job is to work myself out of a job. I believe the primary role of any health care provider is to provide patients with the best information, the best hands-on care and the best tools for self-management in the most efficient and cost effective manner to reach each patients’ individual goals with as little time in the practitioners’ office as possible.
Where is Insight Physical Therapy?
The clinic is conveniently located at 510 Hartbrook Drive, Suite 102 S, just west of the Sendick’s Hartland Plaza in the Riverview Professional Center.
If it’s more convenient for you to have Mark come to your home or office, “house calls” are available for a small fee.
When is the clinic open?
Dr. Erickson is a Physical Therapy Professor at Carroll University and is available for appointments when he is not on campus which includes mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
How often will I need to schedule appointments at Insight PT?
It depends. I work with patients to determine optimal treatment frequency that fits within each patient’s individual life schedule. Typically, we start working together 2x/week until you are comfortable with your program, then reduce appointment frequency to 1x/week then 1x/2weeks then periodic check-ups every 3 months to make sure your recovery is complete. Some patients require appointments 3x/week right after surgery or when there is an acute injury that needs more regular attention to maximize recovery.
Does Insight PT accept insurance?
Many of my patients have insurance coverage for physical therapy. I provide receipts after each visit so patients can be reimbursed for PT services by their insurance company. Patients typically seek help from me because they are not improving fast enough, cost is too high, or the practitioner/s they’ve seen were not able to help them. They are very satisfied making payments directly to Insight PT and getting reimbursed from their insurance company has been well worth the improvements they’ve experienced.
What if I got injured at work?
If you have a work injury, physical therapy is 100% covered by state law and there is no cost to you as the patient. Insight Physical Therapy is an approved Worker’s Compensation provider.
2nd Opinion Consultation
If you are currently seeing a physical therapist and are wondering if you’re getting the best care, you can see Dr. Erickson to see if your PT could/should be doing more to help you.
Do you have a musculoskeletal injury and are wondering if you need to see your medical doctor?
A short consultation with Dr. Erickson at Insight Physical Therapy can answer your question and save you the cost of a medical office visit. If your condition warrants physical therapy, the consultation cost will be incorporated into the initial examination to save you valuable time and money.
